Donald Trump fired the remaining members of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA) Wednesday, reportedly informing them with a letter delivered by FedEx and no explanation for the dismantling of the council.
Newsweek (@newsweek) reports, back in June, six PACHA members resigned. The members wrote a letter that was published in NewsWeek saying the Trump White House was pushing for legislation that would harm people living with HIV.
PACHA member Scott A. Schoettes, who is also a Chicago-based HIV/AIDS activist, tweeted on Tuesday, that the remaining members of the council had been fired for calling Trump and Pence “dangerous.”
Gabriel Maldonaldo, CEO of the LGBT and HIV/AIDS group Trueevolution and one of the remaining PACHA members who were terminated from employ by FedEx letter, said the reasons for the firings remain unclear, but may have been borne from a desire by the Trump Administration to clear out appointments made by his predecessor, Barack Obama.
