The driver of a Tesla that crashed into the back of a firetruck on a California freeway, said that the car was on auto-pilot when the crashed happened. No injuries were reported in the crash in Culver City. The accident happened on Interstate 405. The Culver City Firefighters Association Local 1927 Union tweeted out this picture of the accident.
CNBC (@cnbc) reports that the following statement was released by Tesla, the maker of the vehicle in question.
“Autopilot is intended for use only with a fully attentive driver.”
What good is autopilot if you can’t turn it on and go to sleep without having to worry about crashing into something? “Autopilot” is starting to sound a lot more like cruise control to me. Then again, the driver of the car could be lying about the car being on autopilot when it crashed. Autopilot may have just been an excuse. A very good one too!
