Long-time Tampa Bay Bucs RB, Doug Martin, was reportedly contacted by Bucs GM Jason Licht this morning and told that he was being released. Martin was reportedly set to earn a $6.75 million base salary this season. The Bucs didn’t think the 29-year old back was worth it. Last month, Licht made the claim that Martin did not look like the same back the franchise drafted back in 2012 anymore. Martin played in 11 games with the Bucs last season. Martin had 139 carries and rushed for 406 yards and 3 touchdowns. Martin’s numbers have rapidly declined year after year after his breakout 2012 season when he rushed for 1454 yards. The only other season in his six year career that he rushed for over 1000 yards was 2015, when he went for 1402.
