Former Trump campaign aide Rick Gates has agreed to cooperate with Special Counsel Robert Mueller and is expected to plead guilty in his pending criminal case over money laundering and failing to register as a foreign agent. Gates and Trump Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort, were slapped with a 32-count superseding federal indictment just two days ago. With Gates already facing heavy time with the first indictment, the new indictment may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back. The new charges may have been enough to ensure that Gates would spend the rest of his natural life behind bars if convicted. It’s been reported that Gates will plead guilty to just two counts in the indictment. It’s not yet clear if he’s just pleading guilty to 2 counts in this superseding indictment, or if the two counts he’s pleading guilty to will include both indictments. If it’s the former, it’s very likely that Gates has useful information, as bringing 32 counts down to 2 for a guilty plea is a nice little deal. But if it’s the latter, it’s highly probable that Gates has information on people much higher up the food chain than Paul Manafort. The first indictment had more than 10 counts alone. Gates is expected to enter his guilty plea at 2pm this afternoon. I’m keeping my eye on this story. I’m sure there will be much more to come on this story later on.
