It looks like this season of “Survivor – White House Edition” may be winding down. The latest contestant to be cast off the Island is……………Rex Tillerson. Donald Trump announced that his former Secretary of State would be removed from his position in True Donald Trump fashion. Via Twitter.
Trump also announced Tillerson’s replacement in the tweet and announced a candidate for new director of the CIA, Gina Haspel. Trump gave a statement on the Tillerson move to reporters at the White House.
Rex and I have been talking about this for a long time. We got along quite well, but we disagreed on a few things. We were not really thinking the same. With Mike, we have a very similar thought process.”
If you recall, Rex Tillerson made news a few months ago when it was reported that he called his boss a moron. A statement that Tillerson refused to deny or even walk back. It’s likely that Mike Pompeo will have enough sense not to call his boss a moron, or at least lie about it if he did. Maybe that is the “similar thought process” Trump was speaking of him and Pompeo sharing.
NPR (@NPR) reported, that the State Department was caught off guard by the seemingly sudden dismissal of the now former Secretary Of State.
“The secretary had every intention of remaining because of the tangible progress made on critical national security issues. He established and enjoyed relationships with his counterparts. He will miss his colleagues at the Department Of State and enjoyed working together with the Department Of Defense in an uncommonly robust relationship.” Said Undersecretary Of State Steve Goldstein.
