I’m not sure if any farmers who will be personally effected by the pending “trade war” will find these words comforting, but the president has said that farmers seem to be the target of China’s in the trade war. Trump said it’s ok, because “we will make it up to them.” Not sure exactly how a farmer who may be in danger of losing everything can find comfort in these words, but the president said not to worry, everything will be fine and you will end up in a better position for the pain you will endure right now. Sort of like a personal I.O.U from Donald Trump that is payable to farmers……..at a later date yet to be determined. If I’m a farmer, I’m not sure how confident I will be in ever seeing this I.O.U payment, especially considering who the payment is coming from. A man who has built a reputation for not paying back loans and not paying people who do work for him. But that’s none of my business.
Politico.com (@politico) reports, on Monday, President Donald Trump attempted to reassure American farmers staring down market uncertainty amid an escalating trade dispute with China, which has threatened to level hefty tariffs on soybeans and other agricultural goods.
“We’ll make it up to them. The farmers will be better off than they ever were. It will take a little while to get there, but it could go very quick, actually.” Trump told a group of reporters ahead of his meeting with the cabinet.
Trump said the midwestern farmers were “great patriots” who “understand that they’re doing this for the country.” The president also reminded members of the media that he has instructed Agricultural Secretary Sonny Perdue to work with Cabinet officials to shield farmers from China’s trade actions.
