Donald Trump has been publicly feuding with Amazon and Washington Post owner, Jeff Bezos for weeks. Trump’s persistent attacks on Amazon caused the company’s stock price to drop substantially over the course of his feud. Angry Tweets filled with accusations and claims with no facts or merit to back them weren’t enough for Trump. He made multiple claims that USPS was losing money due to deep discounts it was giving to Amazon who is USPS’s largest customer. These claims were quickly debunked by simple fact checking and statistics. Facts have never been Trump’s strong suit. So, now he’s decided to use his power as president of the United States to push his unfounded accusations.
The New York Times (@nytimes) reports, Trump abruptly issued an executive order on Thursday demanding an evaluation of the Post Service’s finances, asserting the power of his office weeks after accusing Amazon of not paying its fair share.
In the executive order issued just before 9pm, Trump created a task force to examine the service’s “unsustainable financial path” and directed the new group to “conduct a thorough evaluation of the operations and finances of the USPS.”
Trump does not mention Amazon in the order, but it is clear that he intends the group to substantiate his repeated claim that the financial arrangement between the Postal Service and Amazon, its biggest shipper of packages, is a money loser.
If I had to take a wild guess here, I would say that Trump’s solution to this non-existing problem will be to privatize USPS and probably put one of his corrupt, tax-payer robbing friends in charge of USPS. More money and corruption added to the Trump Administration A.K.A “The Swamp”
