Donald Trump’s longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen has been “under criminal investigation” for months in New York because of his business dealings, the Justice Department said on Friday.
CNN (@cnn) reports, these new findings comes amid a courtroom battle that unfolded Friday afternoon, as Cohen’s attorneys and Trump’s attorneys began a fight hours before with the US Attorney’s Office in Manhattan over a massive raid of Cohen’s records.
Cohen’s attorneys have filed a temporary restraining order in the matter, asking the court to stop federal prosecutors from using some of the records they seized. Cohen did not appear in court Friday, and has not been charged with a crime.
Cohen’s lawyers claim that the raids on Cohen’s offices and homes violated the attorney-client privilege are being challenged by prosecutors who basically say Donald Trump is Cohen’s only client, and Cohen is less of a lawyer for Trump and more of a “fixer”. In other bad news for Cohen, and more evidence of him not being a lawyer, but a “fixer”, news broke today that Cohen arranged and negotiated a settlement of $1.6 million to a former Playmate who claimed she was pregnant by a top Republican fundraiser and Deputy Finance Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Elliott Broidy. Broidy did not deny the claims. He did, however make a statement after apologizing to his wife and family.
“It is unfortunate that this personal matter between two consenting adults is the subject of national discussion just because of Michael Cohen’s involvement.”
