Actress, Allison Mack, widely known for her role as Chloe Sullivan on the WB/CW series Smallville, was arrested and charged in Federal Court on Friday for her role in what prosecutors called a sex cult. Mack’s charges include sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and forced labor conspiracy, according to a statement released by the Justice Department.
CNN (@cnn) reports, Mack’s arrest is related to her alleged involvement with an organization called Nxivm, a group that claimed to be a self-help program, but prosecutors allege in reality, the program was a pyramid scheme in which recruits were exploited “both sexually and for their labor, to the defendants benefit,” US Attorney Richard P. Donoghue said.
Nxivm’s founder, Keith Raiere, known in the group as “Vanguard”, was also indicted along with Mack on Friday.
“As alleged in the indictment, Allison Mack recruited women to join what was purported to be a female mentorship group that was, in fact, created and led by Keith Raniere,” Donoghue stated.
Mack entered a not guilty plea and was reprimanded to jail until her arraignment and bail hearing on Monday. Raniere is also being held in a federal jail. His arraignment date has yet to be determined. He is currently being held without bail.
