A 14-year old boy is in custody and suspected of shooting another teenager in the arm this morning at Highland High School in Palmdale, California, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
CNN (@cnn) reports, the shooting happened at or near Highland High School in Palmdale at around 7am. Students were still arriving to school at the time of the incident. The teen suspected of the shooting, and the teen who was shot, are both students of the school. The student who was shot in the arm took himself to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, Sheriff’s Capt. Darren Harris said.
The suspect was apprehended near a Vons grocery store about a mile away from the school, according to fire officials. Authorities found a rifle believed to have been used in the shooting in the desert, a short distance away from the school. Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the shooting.
