Fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead in her Manhattan apartment this morning, in what police say was an apparent suicide.
CBS New York (@CBSNewYork) reports, Kate Spade, whose real name was Kate Brosnahan, 55, was found by her housekeeper at 10:20 am this morning at her home on Park Avenue. Police say she left a note.
Brosnahan sold her company, Kate Spade, to Coach last year in a $2.4 billion deal. The Kate Spade Company has over 140 retail shops across the country and another 175 internationally. Spade, who was born in Kansas City, met her partner Andy Spade while attending Arizona State University. The pair moved to New York and started the Kate Spade Company in the early 90’s. By mid-90’s the brand was a well known name. The brand eventually blew up and grew to a household name global in the designer fashion world.
