POLICE KILL HOMEOWNER AFTER MISTAKING HIM FOR HOME INVASION SUSPECT

AURORA, CO

A Colorado man was killed by a police officer who went to the home investigating a reported home invasion.

The New York Post (@nypost) reported, police officers arrived at the Aurora residence around 1:30 a.m. on Monday morning. Police reportedly received multiple calls of a home invasion in progress at the residence. One of the callers told dispatch that a man broke into her home. Police said they arrived to find a “very chaotic and violent” scene. Cops reported hearing gunshots inside the residence. Upon entering the residence, police encountered 73-year old Richard Black who was holding a firearm. The details of what happened next are sketchy, but in the end, Black lay dead on the floor from a police officer’s bullet.

Black was the legal owner of the home, and had just shot and killed the home invader when he was confronted by the police. Cops say that a child was also injured in the home invasion, apparently at the hands of the home invader. Police released a statement and expressed remorse over the situation, but did not acknowledge any wrongdoing on the cops’ part.

“This is a very heartbreaking and tragic situation for everyone involved. We are providing assistance through our victim advocates to help the family of the deceased resident through this very difficult time.” A police spokesperson said in a statement.
