A suicidal ground service employee for Horizon Air, stole a plane and took it for a joy-ride before crashing the plane near a small island and killing himself.
The insane scene started Friday evening at Seattle’s Sea-Tac Airport. A ground employee apparently stole a passenger plane from its maintenance position at around 8 pm local time. The man took off and performed several in-air stunts as he piloted the stolen aircraft. Two military f-15’s out of Portland, Oregon were scrambled to the scene. NBC News (@NBCNews) reported, the military jets did not engage the commercial aircraft or have any involvement in bringing it down. The plane, which had no passengers on board except the pilot, performed several stunts and flew low to the ground for an hour before it ultimately crash landed on Kentron Island, in Rural Pierce County.
The plane reportedly crashed in a wooded area. No fire was reported. No people reported injured on the ground. And no ground structures were involved in the crash. These reports came from the airline. Air traffic control were in contact with the man as he flew the plane. They tried to talk him into landing the plane, but the suicidal man clearly had other plans on this night.
“I’ve got a lot of people that care about me. It’s going to disappoint them to hear that I did this. I would like to apologize to each and every one of them.” The man said to air traffic control before the crash.
