OVER $1 BILLION WORTH OF COCAINE SEIZED AT PORT OF PHILADELPHIA

PHILADELPHIA, PA

According to DEA officials in DC, the latest count for the seizure stands at 34,341 pounds. A little over 17 tons of cocaine. Authorities are still adding up the amount of cocaine seized in the raid before an “official” number is determined. That number will likely be announced at a press conference scheduled to be held  on Wednesday afternoon.

Action News Philly (@6abc) reported, the cargo ship carrying the cocaine was headed from Chile to Europe, when the drugs were found in Philadelphia. Authorities received a tip about the huge shipment coming into the city on Monday night. The cocaine was discovered inside eight containers on the cargo ship, according to sources.

The ship’s journey began in Chile, before making a stop in Peru and the Bahamas. From there, the ship made its way to Philadelphia. According to the Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District Of Pennsylvania, the ship’s final destination was Europe, with a stop in Rotterdam. So far, it’s unclear where the ship was planning to unload the huge shipment of cocaine.

U.S. Attorney William McSwain tweeted “This is one of the largest drug seizures in United States history.” Members of the ship’s crew were arrested and charged federally. Two of the ship’s crew allegedly admitted to taking part in loading the cocaine from 14 separate boats while the ship was already in route at sea. Authorities say this is the largest seizure of cocaine in the history of the Eastern District Of Pennsylvania.

What do you think authorities do with this much drugs? I know the official “good citizen” line is that “they burn the drugs.” But, what do you really think a country who’s always crying about how much debt they’re carrying would do with over $1 billion worth of cocaine? I know what I’d do……..

TRUMP SLAPS MEXICO, CANADA, AND EUROPE WITH TARIFFS. MEXICO AND EUROPE RETALIATE WITH TARIFFS ON US

WASHINGTON, DC

The United States may very well be at the beginning of a trade war with multiple countries. A trade war that will likely get worse before it even looks like it wants to get any better. A trade war that will likely have a drastic impact on some of the products every day Americans go to the store to buy daily.

BuzzFeed News (@BuzzFeedNews) reports, Donald Trump will level steel and aluminum tariffs on three of the United States’ closest trading partners at midnight on Thursday, overruling his own party and stoking fears of a trade war.

American consumers will almost certainly be hit with higher prices due to the tariffs. Some major industries are already warning of mass layoffs due to the increased costs and retaliation from trading partners.

Commerce Secretary, Wilbur Ross announced today that the exemptions that had been placed on Canada, Mexico, and the EU that excluded them from United States tariffs until March, would now take place at midnight on Thursday. Mexico has already announced counter-tariffs on the United States. They will target American steel as well as food items like pork, sausage, apples, grapes, blueberries, and cheese. The EU has also said that it has “no choice” but to impose counter-measures against the United States. Canada has not yet said what its counter-measures will be, but an announcement is expected as early as Thursday afternoon.

The last president to attempt steel tariffs was George W. bush, back in 2002. He abandoned the thought a year later because the cost, from increased prices and job losses in related industries, outweighed the benefit to the steel industry.

US TO ORDER EXPULSION OF 60 RUSSIAN DIPLOMATS

Washington, D.C

The Trump Administration expelled 60 Russian diplomats on Monday and ordered Russia’s consulate in Seattle to close. The move was another in the United States-Europe joint punishment on Moscow for its alleged role in poisoning an ex-spy in Britain. CBS News (@cbsnews) reports, senior Trump administration officials said all 60 Russians were spies working in the US under diplomatic cover, including a dozen at Russia’s mission to the United Nations. The officials said the administration was taking the action to send a message to Russia’s leaders about the “unnacceptably high” number of Russian intelligence operatives in the US.
