Life coach/motivational speaker/author, Tony Robbins found himself in a bit of a predicament after some comments Robbins made at one of his seminars seemed to suggest that Robbins believed that some women were using the “me too” movement as an excuse or a way to gain some sort of financial gain or publicity for themselves. Robbins comments were heavily scrutinized. Some people even accused Robbins of being a fraud and a con-man after news of his comments hit social media.
Me Too founder Tarana Burke also had some choice words about Robbins’ comments
Robbins was clearly feeling the pressure from the backlash he received. Some of his ardent followers continued to support the life coach, but many more others lashed out at Robbins after footage of the comments hit the waves. Robbins decided that it was best for himself and his business to attempt to nip the situation in the bud and try to explain that he was not trying to downplay the “Me Too” movement, but that his words had simply been taken out of context.
It’s still unclear how Robbins comments and the releasing of the video will effect Robbins business at this point, but one thing remains clear. If you happen to make money in any form of entertainment, or business that relies on public support, you need to be very careful with your choice of words at all times.
