Former Trump personal attorney, Michael Cohen is reportedly in the process of copping a plea with the FEDS on Tuesday afternoon.
ABC News (@ABCNews) reported, the alleged plea deal involves crimes that Michael Cohen were personally involved in. ABC reported that the plea deal does include some jail time.
Michael Cohen had reportedly been under federal investigation for months, but no charges had been filed. At the moment, any comment about what Cohen will be charged with is strictly “guess-work”, as there has been no official word of charges as of yet. There is a court proceeding scheduled for 4pm Tuesday afternoon, in front of a federal judge. (About two hours from the time this is written). Legal analyst predict prosecutors will announce charges against Cohen at that time, or announce the plea deal. **Will update this post after the 4pm court appearance**
Michael Cohen plead guilty to 8 counts altogether. Michael Cohen also said in court that he made illegal campaign contributions “in coordination and at the direction of a candidate for federal office.” Michael Cohen’s sentencing date has been set for December 12th.
Is this the end of the beginning, or the beginning of the end? Either way, there has finally been a sentencing in the Trump-Russia, Mueller investigation. Alex Van Der Zwaan. Who? That’s the same thing I said…. Alex Van Der Zwaan is a Dutch lawyer and son of a Russian oligarch. How it is that Van Der Zwaan found himself mixed up in this mess is beyond me. But the fact remains that Van Der Zwaan caught a charge for lying when he was interviewed by the Special Counsel. Van Der Zwaan entered a guilty plea back in February on a “lying to the FEDS” charge. Today, Van Der Zwaan was sentenced to 30-days behind bars. Seems a little light for lying to the FEDS right? Van Der Zwaan’s sentence was probably light for a reason. There’s a strong possibility that the 30-day vacation came with some sort of cooperation agreement with the special counsel.
The New York Post (NYPost) reports, Van Der Zwaan, 33, lied to Mueller’s prosecutors about his work in Ukraine with former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his business associate Rick Gates. Mueller’s charges allege that Van Der Zwaan and Gates talked with a businessman who was also a Russian Intelligence agent during the last months of the campaign.
Gates pleaded guilty back in February and has been cooperating in Mueller’s probe. Gates was facing five years behind bars. He is expected to be sentenced to around six months as part of his plea agreement.
Donald trump spent part of his Sunday morning having another Twitter tantrum. In what has now become the norm for this Country, the Commander in Chief publicly attacks government employees and private United States citizens on a social media site that is viewed by the world. Allowing leaders across the globe to see just how unstable and out of control the United States has become under Trump’s leadership. The target of his fury this morning was former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who was just fired from his position yesterday. And Robert Mueller, the person at the head of the Special Counsel investigating alleged collusion or conspiracy with Russia and/or Russian Nationals to interfere in the 2016 United States presidential election.
The tweets about McCabe and Mueller may seem to come out of left field without a little context (and a few rumors that the president may have just confirmed with these tweets). It was reported by multiple news outlets just yesterday that fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe took detailed notes of his encounters with the president. Then it was reported that McCabe turned those notes over to Robert Mueller and the Special Counsel a little while back. The other piece of rumor/news that may be relevant to these tweets, were reports that the Special Counsel sent Trump’s lawyers a set of questions they wanted to ask him pertaining to the investigation. If you believe these reports, then Trump’s tweets and the timing of these tweets may become more than just some ramblings from a crazed man. They become the erratic moves of a person who is attempting to get ahead of the story and prepare his followers for when this news does eventually break.
Quick fact check: Robert Mueller, just like most FBI agents and employees are registered Republicans. They’re most likely Conservative Republicans and not Trumpublicans, which to Donald Trump, is the same thing as being a Democrat, which in his mind is the same thing as being his enemy.
A federal grand jury in the District Of Columbia returned an indictment Friday against 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities accused of violating US laws to interfere with US elections and political processes.
CNN(@CNN) reports, three of the defendants were also charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud, and five other defendants were charged with aggravated identity theft. The defendants allegedly posed as US persons, created false personas, and operated social media pages and groups designed to attract US audiences, the indictment reads.
Beginning as early as 2014, the Russian organization Internet Research Agency began operations to interfere with the US political system, including the 2016 elections, according to the indictment, which was released by Mueller’s office Friday. “The Internet Research Agency had a strategic goal to sow discord in the US political system, including the election,” the indictment says. Russians posted derogatory information about a number of candidates. By mid-2016, they supported Trump and disparaged Democratic candidate Hilary Clinton. The Russians bought ads and communicated with “unwitting” people tied to the Trump campaign and others to coordinate political activities.
The indictment against the 13 Russians is 37-pages long and gives detailed information about how the Russian operation worked and infiltrated the 2016 US presidential election and more. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein stopped short of saying that there was no evidence that the Russian effort changed the results of the 2016 presidential election. Rosenstein did suggest that this investigation was far from done though. The arrest today and the information provided in this indictment proves that there was Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and that the investigation led by Robert Mueller is legitimate. An investigation that Donald Trump has claimed was a hoax since its inception. With this indictment today, that witch hunt/hoax excuse will not fly any longer. Russia actually interfered in a US presidential election, there’s no way to deny it any longer.
