WEBB COUNTY, TEXAS
35-year old Border Patrol Agent, David Ortiz was taken into custody by the Webb County PD on Saturday. Ortiz is a suspect in the killing of four people and the aggravated kidnapping of a fifth person, a woman who managed to escape her captor.
CNN (@cnn) reported, the bodies of the four deceased (one male and three females), had been discovered over the course of the past two weeks, according to sheriff’s spokesperson, Eduardo Chapa.
“This case broke open yesterday with an aggravated kidnapping and then a lookout for the suspect, in this case, Ortiz.” Webb County district attorney, Isidro R. “Chilo” Alaniz said.
Chapa said Ortiz was picked up along Interstate 35 in Laredo early on Saturday morning. The female that was kidnapped managed to escape. According to authorities, she had a gun pulled on her during the abduction, but managed to get away from Ortiz. The woman immediately went to authorities. She provided them with a description of the suspect and the white pick-up truck that led police to Ortiz.
“We have very strong evidence that he is the person who has been killing.” The sheriff said at a press conference Saturday afternoon.
The brother of Sacramento Kings power forward Zach Randolph, was shot and killed outside of a bar in Indiana last night.
The Associated Press (@AP) reports, an officer in the area heard gunfire in the area at around 5am. When he arrived at the scene he found Roger Randolph on the ground bleeding as he lay between two cars parked outside of the Hop’s Blues Room in Marion, Indiana.
Police say they don’t know the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting, but don’t think it was a random attack. Cops believe Randolph was targeted or maybe even knew his murderer.
Zach Randolph grew up in Marion and was a standout player at Marion High School. Randolph headed off to Michigan to attend college before being drafted by the Portland Trailblazers in 2001. Zach Randolph has played with five NBA teams (Portland Trailbazers, New York Knicks, LA Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Sacramento Kings) in his 17-year career in the league.
72-year old, Joseph James Deangelo, an ex-police officer, has been arrested in Sacramento in a decades-long search for the “Golden State Killer” who terrorized California communities in the 1970’s and 80’s with a series of murders and rapes, according to reports.
USA Today (@USAToday) reports, The elusive, masked killer, also known as The East Area Rapist, and The Original Night Stalker, is believed to have killed 12 people, raped 45 people, and ransacked more than 100 area homes.
Sacramento County jail records show that a man identified as Joseph James Deangelo, was arrested and charged early Wednesday with two counts of murder. He was arrested under a warrant from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, according to the jail’s records.
FBI and California officials last year renewed their search for a suspect in the cases and announced a $50,000 reward for an arrest and conviction.
Armed with a gun, the masked rapist would break into homes while single women or couples were sleeping. He would tie the man up and pile dishes on his back, then rape the woman while threatening to kill them both if the dishes tumbled.
A 16-year old teen from New Jersey has been taken into custody after he allegedly shot and killed three family members and a family friend, 15-minutes before the New Year rang in according to local authorities.
BuzzFeed News (@BuzzFeed) reports, the 16-year old, who is not being identified because of his age, alleged used a semi-autimatic rifle to shoot and kill his parents, sister, and a friend of the family’s, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said in a statement. The teen was arrested and charged as an adult for four counts of murder.
The weapon used in the murders was legally owned and registered to a family member. No motive has been revealed, although investigators are looking into domestic violence as a possibility.
The teen’s grandfather and brother managed to get out of the house unharmed, Gramiccioni said in a statement. The family members killed in the incident were identified as Steven Kologi, 44 (father), Linda Kologi, 42 (mother), Brittany Kologi, 18, (sister), and Mary Schultz, 70, (family friend).
It’s a terrible incident.” Monmouth County Prosecutor, Gramiccioni said in a statement.
