Three package bombs have gone off in the past two weeks. The local leader of the NAACP told NBC News that the targets seem to be prominent black families. New York Magazine (@NYMAG) reports, the families of Stephen House, who was killed on March 2, and Draylen Mason, who was killed on Monday, have known each other for a long time and even attended the same church, according to NAACP president Nelson Linder. Linder said that a third bomb, which injured 75-year old Esperenza Herrera, may have been intended for another person who might be connected to the House and Mason families.
The Austin police agree that the bombings are related. However, they haven’t suggested a motive as of yet. They also haven’t said whether or not they believe the victims were targeted. Police chief Brian Manley told reporters that they’re not ruling out that hate is at the core of this crime.
Reports of hate crimes rose by 46% in 2016. But the total number of hate crimes reported were suspiciously low, especially when you consider that Austin is a city with nearly 950,000 residents. In 2015 there were 13 hate crimes reported. That number rose to 19 in 2016, according to the FBI’s annual report on hate crimes. Some are skeptical of the Texas hate crime numbers.
“Relative to its population, Texas reports fewer hate crimes than other big states. Something is wrong when Texas, as a state has fewer hate crimes than some of the major cities in the US.” said hate-crime expert, criminologist, attorney who directs the Center For The Study Of Hate And Extremism, Brian Levin.
24-year old minor league outfielder Danry Vasquez was cut by his minor league team, the Lancaster Barnstormers after a Texas Police Department released disturbing footage of Vasquez beating his then girlfriend in a stairwell. CBS NEWS (@CBSNews) reports, the team announced Tuesday on their Facebook page that they had released Vasquez. This, after police in Texas recently decided to release a video of Vasquez beating his girlfriend in a stairwell back in 2016. The incident took place inside Whataburger Field where minor league baseball team Corpus Cristi Hooks play their home games. *Warning* The video is graphic and shows Vasquez repeatedly slapping and punching the woman.

Vasquez was a member of the Hooks at the time of the attack. Vasquez’s attorney told KRIS news station that the woman in the video did not wish to press charges in the case, but Nueces County District Attorney Mark Gonzalez would not drop the charges. Vasquez was allowed to enter a pre-trial diversion program offered to first time offenders. After Vasquez completed all requirements of his probation, including attending classes and paying a fine, Gonzales said he “had to dismiss the case.” Vasquez and the woman in the video had reportedly been in a relationship since he was 16 and she was 14, back when the were living in Venezuela.
There’s a good reason why some people live by the rule “never bring a first date to your house.” Obviously, Texas attorney Anthony Buzbee is not one of the people who live by that rule. He invited a woman into his home on a first date, and paid for it, big time.
BuzzFeed News (@BuzzFeedNews) reports, Buzbee alleges that a woman destroyed hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of art in his house, including two original Andy Warhol paintings, after getting drunk on a first date.
Prosecutors said in court Wednesday that 29-year old, Dallas court reporter, Lindy Lou Layman, was on a date with Buzbee on December 23rd when she allegedly went on the destructive spree. Buzbee told police that Layman became intoxicated, hid from him inside of his own $14 million mansion, and, when he tried to get her an Uber ride home, she started attacking his valuable art. Layman was charged with felony criminal mischief after allegedly tearing three paintings off the wall, pouring an unidentified liquid on them, and destroying two abstract sculptures by throwing them across the room. Prosecutors said two of the paintings alone were valued at about $500,000 apiece. The sculptures were worth about $20,000 apiece. Layman was released in lieu of $30,000 bail. This may be related, it may be unrelated, but I believe it’s worth noting that Buzbee is a Trump supporter, who once hosted a fundraiser for “The Donald” at his plush Texas mansion. Maybe the Lindy Lou Layman chick is not as crazy as I originally thought she was.

26 people were killed and at least 20 more people were injured when 26-year old domestic terrorist, Devin Patrick Kelly decided to walk into a church and open fire from an AR-556 rifle he was carrying. As police and FBI attempt to piece together a motive for the horrible tragedy, a few details about the shooter has unraveled. The one that might actually put a motive to this horrible tragedy is the fact that the shooter’s estranged wife and in-laws attended the church. The wife nor in-laws were present at the time of the shooting.
The President of the United States interrupted his trip abroad to weigh in on the tragedy. Speaking from Japan, Trump expressed condolences to the victims of the shooting. He also said that the shooter was mentally ill and that the shooting was caused by a mental health problem, not an issue with U.S. gun laws. Just last week the president called for a travel ban for Muslims from certain Countries once again, when a single individual drove a truck through a crowded New York bike path. The president also called that person an animal and called for his immediate execution. The shooting that took place in Texas yesterday, along with the horrible shooting tragedy in Las Vegas where over 50 people were killed by high-powered automatic rifles, both caused the president to sing a different tune. In those cases the shooter was “mentally ill” and there was no need for tougher gun laws, because these acts were committed by one mentally ill individual. The president doesn’t even consider a mass-shooting done by a white man as terrorism. He will never define it as such, no matter how many times it happens, or how many people it kills. But, when the one mentally ill in individual who commits a horrible act or crime is Muslim or from the Middle East, then his act is immediately considered terrorism in the eyes of the president. It’s also no longer the actions of one “mentally ill” individual, that “individual’s” crimes become the actions of a whole religion, therefore a travel ban from whatever Country the individual is from must be implemented. This is the mind of the president of the united States. The mind of an evil, racist, individual who seems hell-bent on dividing, and tearing this Country apart.
